It's been bugging me for two years since I finished my Wampum II Vintage Marblehead RC sailboat... the rig was too high. The rig just didn't look right. Looked too "toy boatish" even though it is a toy boat.
So today I finally stopped staring at it and cut 1.125" off the bottom of the mast. Then I redid all the stays and such.
It looks better now. Will try to get it on the water in the next week or three to see how it sails.
It's a little hard to see in these pictures, but the boat looks a lot better now. Phew!
Cheers!

I'm currently restoring a pond yacht that my Grandfather built many years ago. In my life time its never had rigging. I'd really like to keep it vintage, similar to the rigging you've got on your Marblehead (brass turnbuckles, fittings etc). I'm based in New Zealand, so any tips or advice you can give me, and if you could point me to where I could purchase parts would be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteThanks for your comments!
I purchased the vintage-looking brass bits from a guy named Roger Cousineau in Florida, USA. His website is "Model Yacht Fittings". http://www.modelyachtfittings.com/ Not sure if he ships to NZ but worth asking him. He hand makes all his fittings. For years now he's threatened to quit but last I heard he's still making them in his metal shop. Good luck! Steve
Thanks Steve. Appreciate the pointer. Got recommendations for rigging? What do you use for stays and ropes?
